The company, which was started in 1925 and launched its first recycling program the same year, can now offer customers the option of windows and doors made from pine certified to have been harvested from well-managed forests, the company reports. Phantom Screens

The provider of retractable screen solutions introduced the new Small Motorized Executive Retractable Screen to its product line at IBS. With a housing size of only 4 X 4 inches, the screen is designed to address applications where subtlety is paramount. The reduced footprint makes it easier to blend the screens into the décor of exterior or interior spaces, such as picture windows where the screens are used as solar shades. The screen can accommodate smaller cavities in the case of recessed applications, as components can be hidden out of sight in ceiling cavities and column channels. In applications where only a surface mount is possible, the Small Executive comes with a variety of finish options and can be custom-matched to blend with unique colors and even woodgrains. The new product covers a maximum opening of 8 feet high by 10 feet wide.

Ply Gem

Ply Gem Windows is expanding its expanded Mira Premium Series aluminum clad window line with four new styles of radius operable and picture casement windows. Offered in eight clad colors with the same hardware and grille options offered in the existing collection, the new line can meet Energy Star thermal requirements in all climate zones, the manufacturer reports. Treated wood frame and sash parts prevent damage from water and fungus, therefore increasing the integrity of the windows. The windows’ exterior cladding utilizes extruded rather than roll-formed aluminum to resist against dings and dents, plus has an AAMA 2604 finish that provides superior resistance to chalking and fading, the manufacturer reports.

Also featured by Ply Gem was an expanded Contractor Window series with multiple product styles that meet the .30/.30 requirements for energy tax credits. The manufacturer has also added an optional 3 ¼-inch frame depth for double hung, architectural shapes and fixed windows to the currently available 2 7/8-inch frame depth on its Contractor Series replacement windows. The new frame depth works well with traditional wood pocket window replacement applications, the company points out.

ProtectoWrap

The Protecto Sill Drainage System combines an advanced wicking material with a peel-and-stick butyl adhesive and a positive-sloped, closed-cell foam back dam. The design ensures any water or condensation found inside the window rough opening will be directed to the outside weather plane of the structure, the company explains. The basis of the window sill drainage system’s functionality is its mold-resistant wicking material, applied to the top of Protecto Wrap’s waterproofing membrane for the purpose of absorption and transfer of moisture to the outside of the window opening. A closed-cell foam ½-inch back dam promotes additional drainage and protection.

Schlage

Unlike traditional pin-and-tumbler locks, which must be removed from the door and disassembled for rekeying, SecureKey locks and deadbolts employ a new high-security design that enables them to be rekeyed in seconds—without removal from the door and without compromising security. Security is actually enhanced through the use of a pick-resistant Grade 1 cylinder and a special locking sidebar that protects against lock bumping. The SecureKey design provides well over 100,000 possible key combinations, making it 10 times more secure from key duplication than other rekeyable systems on the market, according to the supplier.  Rekeying the deadbolts and locks is a simple two-step procedure that does not require any extra tools. A blue reset key included with the lock is turned to the 11:00 position and removed. Then a new blue reset key that matches the new keys for the lock is inserted and turned back to the 12:00 position.  The SecureKey locks cost the same as Schlage’s conventional locks and will be available in all styles of residential deadbolts and door locks, including handlesets.
