FMA to Meet in Florida for Spring Conference
Meetings & Events
The Fenestration Manufacturers Association will gather for its annual spring conference April 27-29 in Duck Key, Fla. Education tops the agenda, as well as informational updates that pertain to several industry initiatives.
David Toney, a lawyer with Houston-based Adams & Reese law firm, will again make a presentation to FMA attendees—this time focusing his legal insight on the green building movement. “David will cover the legal implications of manufacturers or suppliers making claims that products meet green certification,” says Dick Wilhelm, executive director of FMA. “Such promises can lead to legal implications if not rigidly adhered to. Also, David always graces our meetings with his legal experience representing window manufacturers in court.”
Since FMA represents the Window & Door Manufacturers Association in the Southeast, that organization's representative Jeff Lowinski will inform attendees where WDMA plans to head strategically in the next several years, as well as the ways in which FMA can contribute to the association’s initiatives.
Other speakers include Joseph Lstiburek of Building Science Corp. who will present “Adventures in Building Science;” Michael Collins of Jordan, Knauff & Co., who will give an updated national and regional economic forecast; and Robert Cochell of Gulf Coast Air Systems Inc., who will provide a report on changes in the Florida Energy Code.
The spring conference will also feature a roundtable discussion pertaining to innovation in the industry. The aim, Wilhelm says, is to explore they ways in which window and door manufacturers are poised to survive and thrive in a changing marketplace. “I feel our industry in the Southeast must reinvent itself to survive in a global market,” he explains. “Many of our members need to explore exporting, as well as diversifying into allied manufacturing production.”
In addition to its general membership meeting and other code- and installation-related seminars, FMA will also host several networking activities. For more information about the event and for discounted hotel rate information, visit the FMA Web site or call 850/402-2954.
