What’s your experience with window and door families?

THE TALK...

I guess some professions just run in the family. My uncle is a professional writer; in fact, his first book went on presale this month. We write about drastically different things—he covers sports with a particular affinity for “where are they now?” stories and I write about windows and doors, with a soft spot for specialty retailers—but we get on the phone every once and a while to dish about deadlines and word counts, and it just sort of clicks. It must be in the blood.

I have run across some pretty amazing window and door families during my time in this industry. Owners hand the company down to the next generation, siblings work side by side, a husband runs the plant while a wife runs the front office…. And then they all go on vacation together! Crazy.

Do you work with your relatives? And if you do, how do you make it work? Is the window and door industry one that just sort of gets into the blood? Email me to share.
