U.S. Window and Door Sales to Increase in 2016
Window sales could increase by 7.9 percent to $11.5 billion during 2016 and door sales could increase by 5.5 percent to $15.0 billion. Unit sales are expected to increase to 91 million windows and 120 million doors this year, according to a report from Catalina Research. Growth will benefit from an estimated a 9.7 percent increase in housing starts, according to the company, which reports that the residential replacement market could also strengthen along with sharper gains in employment and personal income.

Energy Legislation Passes in Senate Vote
The U.S. Senate voted in November to pass the Energy Policy Modernization Act (S. 2012) by a vote of 85-12. This vote comes after the House of Representatives passed its energy bill last December (H.R. 8). The legislation makes several updates to the nation's energy policy. Two amendments backed by the Window and Door Manufacturers Association were considered during the voting cycle.

Pella Acquires Reilly Windows & Doors
Pella Corp. acquired Reilly Windows & Doors, a manufacturer and designer of custom window walls and doors for builders and architects. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. Effective August 1, Reilly Windows & Doors remains under the leadership of Michael Reilly and maintains its brand and focus on the luxury marketplace. Over time, Reilly Windows & Doors will be integrated into the Pella Crafted Luxury collection, along with Pella and Grabill Windows & Doors products.

Window and Door Division of Royal Building Products Gets New Name, Parent Company
OpenGate Capital officially completed the acquisition of the window and door division of Royal Building Products, now renamed Energi Fenestration Solutions. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Window & Door first reported news of the pending acquisition last month.
Energi will be a standalone entity within the OpenGate Capital portfolio of companies and will soon release an updated website, according to the company, which reports that all operations will continue to function at the same level of performance and service.

Deceuninck CEO Steps Down
Tom Debusschere stepped down as CEO of Deceuninck on March 1, but will remain as a non-executive member of the board of directors until May 10. The board’s vice chairman, Francis Van Eeckhout, will serve as interim CEO until a permanent replacement is found. Van Eeckhout said Debusschere was instrumental in creating the company’s growth strategy, including new factories in the United States and Turkey.

Jeld-Wen Partners with U.S. Lumber, Acquires Second Australian Manufacturer
Jeld-Wen partnered with U.S. Lumber. Door dealers and lumberyards will be able to purchase Jeld-Wen products from U.S. Lumber in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia, starting in mid-2016. U.S. Lumber will pre-hang and distribute the complete line of Jeld-Wen Doors. Jeld-Wen also announced its acquisition of Australia’s Trend Windows & Doors, which produces aluminum, timber and thermal energy-efficient windows and doors under multiple brand names including Synergy, Quantum, Thermashield, SoundMizer and Xtreme Bushfire Protection Windows & Doors.

PGT Acquires WinDoor
PGT Inc. acquired WinDoor, which introduces a third brand to the PGTI portfolio to include PGT, CGI and WinDoor. All three business units serve the impact-resistant window and door market. WinDoor will continue to operate and manufacture products in Orlando, Florida and will remain a separate and distinct brand in the marketplace.

Pella Names Tim Yaggi Named New President/CEO; Creates New Vice President Positions
In May, Pella Corp. appointed Tim Yaggi as its new president and chief executive officer. Yaggi’s most recent position was chief operating officer and interim president and CEO at Tempur Sealy International, which is the world’s largest bedding provider. Prior to his work in bedding, Yaggi served at MASCO Corp. as group president of the North America Builder Group where he oversaw a portfolio of seven independent companies with 15,000 employees.

In November, Pella Corp. filled four new vice president positions with internal employees: Cole Adrian, divisional vice president of luxury; Matt Poulter, divisional vice president of direct sales; Ben Cox, divisional vice president of sales subsidiaries; and Bill DeMeulenaere, vice president.

EPA Fines Contractor for Failing to Warn of Lead
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency fined G.D. Friend Inc. $28,564 for failing to comply with the federal Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule while performing renovation work at two residential properties in Southern California. The company installs energy efficient home improvement products, such as windows and siding under the operation Everlast Home Energy Solutions.

MI Windows and Doors Launches Rebranding Campaign
MI Windows and Doors launched a new branding campaign with an entirely new look and feel, including a new logo, tagline, literature and website. The company, which has a longstanding track record serving the new construction market, has a renewed focus on remodeling and replacement with high-quality window offerings, now evoked in the new branding.
