Balance hardware producer Caldwell Manufacturing Co. North America LLC has acquired substantially all the assets of Advantage Manufacturing, including its Magnum-branded operable window hardware line.  The purchase adds depth to Caldwell’s offerings with the Advantage line complements its existing line of sliding window hardware, says Eric Mertz, Caldwell president and CEO.

By combining two highly successful product lines and distribution networks, the new entity is poised for geographic expansion with a diverse offering at precisely the right time to leverage the economic rebound, Mertz continues..

Based in Victor, N.Y., Advantage was founded in 1992 by Malcolm Muir. The company produces heavy-duty, four-bar hinges designed to provide high load-bearing capacity for aluminum casement and projection windows. Muir remains involved in the business under the terms of the purchase, and operations will continue at the Victor facility.

Based in Rochester, N.Y., since its founding in 1888, Caldwell expanded its product line last year, adding the operations of Unique Balance in Pence Springs, W.Va.  Caldwell also maintains manufacturing operations in Williamsport, Md.; Juarez, Mexico; and Coventry, England, as well as distribution warehouses in El Paso, Texas, and Alachua, Fla.

Customers, employees and venders should not expect any immediate changes with the acquisition of Advantage.  While there are clearly areas of great opportunity between the current offerings of both companies, company officials note that as the integration progresses, they will evaluate synergies in a way that assures a "first in service/best in class" result for customers and employees.

“With Caldwell parts installed in billions of windows worldwide and nearly 125 years of innovation experience combined with our market leadership in window hardware, Caldwell is now perfectly poised to respond to the increased demands of today’s building market," Mertz concludes.
