Chelsea Building Products Inc. announced plans to invest in new high-capacity vinyl profile extruders and downstream equipment for its production facility in Oakmont, Pa., during fourth quarter 2013. The investment is expected to increase Chelsea's lineal production capacity by 20 percent.

The investment in new extruding equipment is the second part of Chelsea’s two-year streamlining and expansion plan. In fourth quarter 2012, Chelsea made a major investment in its extrusion tooling fabrication department. This endeavor doubled Chelsea’s ability to design and fabricate extrusion tooling for its various material systems and profile designs. In the second quarter of 2013, Chelsea made another major investment to expand its extrusion capacity with additional extruders and downstream equipment ordered for delivery first quarter 2014.

“In addition to increased capacity, the new extrusion equipment will be more energy efficient, thus producing more products with less consumption of electricity,” says Lee Furrer, director of manufacturing.
