Crystal Windows & Doors' COO Steve Chen issued a response clarifying a Feb. 12 New York Post report, titled "Queens Glass Maker Moving due to City's High Cost."

Chen clarifies Crystal's intentions and future plans with its customers in the statement, saying, "the news story...misrepresents the future plans and activities of Crystal Window & Door Systems." He adds, "[It] further misrepresents that Crystal's plans are directly linked to the public policies of several elected officials." Crystal's plans are for corporate expansion, not corporate relocation, Chen explains, and the company plans to keep its headquarters and main production facility in Queens for the foreseeable future.

Over the years, Crystal has expanded production capacity in cities across the country, and considered expanding in New York City and the surrounding areas. The initiatives were only intended to increase capacity and never to replace the Queens facility, as the NY Post report alludes, Chen remarks. The company has even considered expanding capacity at its current Queens locations, but has not yet been able to secure a sufficiently large and properly configured industrial site at an effective price, he says.
