Stanley Black & Decker has licensed Dusco Doors Ltd. of Montreal, Que., to manufacture and market Stanley Doors in North America. The license takes effect immediately, with the Canadian door maker planning to bring a new line of Stanley Doors quickly to the marketplace, it reports.

“We are extremely excited to have been chosen by Stanley Black & Decker to reintroduce Stanley Doors in North America,” says Harvey Dubrofsky, Dusco CEO. “Stanley recognized that we have both the quality and manufacturing capability that is required to uphold the reputation and trust that the Stanley brand has earned in the marketplace. We hope to enhance that reputation and build on that trust by producing a unique line of high quality differentiated products.”

Stanley was a long-time manufacturer of residential entry doors that developed considerable brand awareness among consumers.  In 2003, Masonite International Corp. acquired the Stanley door business, including the company's manufacturing operations, from the Stanley Works.  At the time, the Stanley door business was reported to generate about $200 million in annual sales.  As part of the transaction, Masonite had a multi-year license to produce Stanley brand doors.

The new product line to be offered by Dusco will be sold as Stanley Doors and will include insulated entry door systems in fiberglass and steel, patio doors, decorative glass and associated components. The new program is targeted to launch in the fall of 2010 at key home improvement centers, mass merchandisers, wholesale chains and industrial distributors in both Canada and the United States, Dusco reports.
