The Omaha World Herald reports that Echo Windows LLC, based in Red Oak, Iowa, is closing today.

Echo Windows is the former Traco residential window manufacturing operation acquired by the Richard and Sharon Gillman family of Chicago, which also owned Republic Windows in Chicago, the newspaper states.

The sudden closing of Republic last year drew national attention when workers staged a sit-in demanding and eventually winning severance and vacation pay.  Serious Materials, the California-based manufacturer of high-performance windows and doors, is now seeking to purchase Republic's assets.

The Omaha paper says Echo Windows sent a press release out on Sunday citing the economy and labor strife in Chicago as reasons for shuttering the facility and eliminating 100 jobs.
