Masonite Corp. is closing its Mohawk Flush Door plant in South Bend, Ind., according to several newspaper reports. The company expects to phase-out production over the next few months, shifting work to other North American facilities.

"Despite the dedicated efforts of a talented group of workers, we were forced to make a difficult decision to cease production at this facility," said Mike Fout, VP of Masonite's Interior Door Division for North America, in a press release given to the South Bend Tribune. "This is part of our ongoing efforts to improve our efficiencies across Masonite and to better meet customer demand."

The South Bend plant employed about 70 people.  Masonite's Mohawk Flush Doors unit also operates a plant in Northumberland, Pa.
