Masonite International Corp. is closing a door fabrication plant in Kirkwood, N.Y., according to papers filed with the state's labor department. The move, scheduled for February 2013, will affect 64 workers.

The closing follows a November announcement from Masonite that it was losing about $70 million in retail business with Lowe's, primarily in the Northeast and Southwest.

An article in the Press & Sun Bulletin, a Binghamton, N.Y., newspaper, quotes Fred Lynch, Masonite president and CEO, as saying that the door maker planned to "take a look at plants associated with this retail channel," in a Nov. 8 conference call with stock analysts. “Several other rationalizations under review have been accelerated” in the wake of the Lowe’s decision, the newspaper reports.
