The manufacturer of Woodport interior doors, Owens Door Co., closed its doors last Thursday.  Its parent company, Owens Inc., went into court-supervised receivership Friday when it was unable to meet obligations on its debt, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Based in Shawano, Wis., Owens employed about 150 people at its two factories.  In addition to Owens Door, the company also operated Owens Flooring Co.

An attorney working with the company told the newspaper there was still hope that Owens would be purchased by another company and that its factories would be re-opened.

A one-time Window & Door Top 100 manufacturer, with reported sales in the $30 to 40 million range in 2005, Owens Door was previously known as Heritage Veneered Products.  The company operated a 220,000-square foot plant, manufacturing interior hardwood stile-and-rail and MDF doors.
