Veka Inc., will close its Veka Innovations facility in Youngstown, Ohio facility on Sept. 25. Closure of the plant, which manufactured fence, deck and rail products, will not impact Veka’s extrusion business in the window and door market, the company reports.

“The most unfortunate thing about the closure is the loss of jobs for some quality people,” says Chuck Spaulding, executive vice president and COO. “This is all part of the cutbacks that we, and many other companies, have faced this year. Our business is directly related to the housing market and the raw materials that we use to produce vinyl are by-products of oil, so we are tremendously impacted negatively by both markets.”

Walter Stucky, president of Veka operations in North America, says that despite the closure, the company will continue to manufacture fence, deck and rail products, adding that he expects minimal impact on day-to-day business.
