Weeke North America has opened a new facility in Michigan to produce an entry level series of CNC routers. A joint venture between Stiles Machinery, Weeke Maschinenbau and Weeke's parent company, the Homag Group, occupies a 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility located near Stiles’ headquarters in Grand Rapids.

Based in Northern Germany, Weeke is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of CNC equipment, according to Stiles officials.  Stiles has been Weeke’s exclusive distributor in the United States for over 20 years.

The woodworking equipment distributor shared its customers' requests for an entry-level router with Weeke, it reports, which led to the development of the Weeke Vantech series of machines.  It was also determined that by manufacturing in the U.S., the company could build machines for less without factors such as fluctuating exchange rates and international shipping costs. “All three shareholders are excited about the opportunities this will bring to our customers in 2009 and beyond, says,” David Rothwell, Stile's executive vice president.

The new operation utilizes local manufacturers for components. The facility produces machines to order, maintains almost no inventory and still offers short delivery times, according to Stiles' executives.
