Meetings & Events

Adams & Reese law firm and Boyken International, a construction management consulting firm, will host on May 21 a presentation entitled, "Green Building: Unique Opportunities and Interesting Challenges." The presentation will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Adams & Reese offices in Houston, Texas. A reception and discussion will follow at 4:30 p.m..

With the increasing interest in green building, care and caution should be implemented by all involved, especially given the increasing frequency of claims and litigation arising from attempted green construction, notes David Toney, an Adams & Reese lawyer who specializes in the fenestration industry. As the general public, building owners and developers are increasingly accepting green building practices, and as building codes around the country are calling for green certifications, attorneys are swarming onto the scene, he says.

Green issues are bubbling up and likely will surface in the court system in the near future as the public is beginning to question and challenge the claims made on a range of products, from refrigerators to energy-efficient light bulbs to building products.

The presentation and discussion will look at innovative ideas and practical ways in which companies can deal with the unique challenges offered by the green building trend.
