The Association of Millwork Distributors submitted a code change proposal for the International Residential Code that would incorporate a reference to the AMD 100 for compliance to design wind load requirements. The ANSI/AMD 100-2013, Structural Performance Ratings of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Systems and Procedures for Component Substitution, ensures that producers of SHEDs have an alternative standard to use for complying to design pressure rating requirements in residential building codes, AMD officials say.
In April, AMD is advocating for this code change at the International Code Council’s Code Development Hearings in Dallas. The organization is urging members to write letters to the members of the IRC Committee. A sample letter with suggested language and a listing of the IRC Committee members is available on the AMD website. All letters must be mailed before April 15, 2013.
