Green Tops Agenda for AAMA Fall Conference
Meetings & Events
The American Architectural Manufacturers Association has announced plans for its national fall conference, scheduled for October 10-13 in Santa Ana Pueblo (Albuquerque), N.M. The event will feature a keynote speech by Chris Nelson of UL Environment, who will give an overview of the importance of third-party validation and certification of sustainable products.
Nelson's talk will look at how a company can set itself up for success to earn third-party claims validation by developing precise and measurable environmental claims, manufacturing products in compliance with industry-wide sustainability standards, and understanding the various sustainability aspects of products and documenting them accordingly.
AAMA's green and sustainability specification development task group will continue its work in New Mexico, reviewing the latest ballot of the AAMA Green Products Certification Program criteria for residential and light commercial products. In addition, brief updates will be provided regarding the development of the companion programs for commercial and architectural products, as well as for skylights and sloped glazing products.
The event will also feature the initial meeting of AAMA's new codes action committee. Formed during the re-structuring of the former codes and regulatory affairs committee and the codes working group, the new committee is responsible for developing code change proposals, public comments and AAMA positions primarily directed to the International Code Council. Members of the new committee have already discussed the next set of code proposals and will provide attendees with updates about how this round of code development will impact the fenestration industry. The session will also include updated information about the ICC’s International Green Construction Code.
Also on the business agenda is a report on AAMA's strategic plan, including updates on implemented programs and procedures. The opening general session will highlight a number of important developments within the organization, including its new FenestrationMasters professional certification program.
