ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer featured Hurd Windows & Doors in a “Made in America” feature that aired last week. The manufacturer was included in a story that highlighted U.S. companies that are succeeding domestically and internationally.

Stu Brown, Hurd VP of product and service, cited examples of windows that were being exported to China and Canada. A large group of Hurd’s Medford, Wis.-based employees were featured in the piece, showcasing some of the products that they had a hand in building.

The ABC report suggested that for the first time since the 1930s, U.S. manufacturers have an export advantage in the global marketplace. This is attributed to the fact that U.S. workers are considered the most productive workers in the world, making the U.S. as much as 45 percent less expensive than its foreign competitors. The story went on to say that new technologies are unlocking energy reserves, which is lowering U.S. energy costs. It also noted that shipping from U.S. ports is cheaper than from its international counterparts.

The piece concluded with a note that all the companies featured were hiring. “Our workforce has grown 10 percent in the last year,” reports Dominic Truniger, Hurd president. “In fact, in the past 18 months, we’ve grown our workforce by 25 percent.”
