K.C. Co., a Beltsville, Md., based dealer and distributor for Pella Windows & Doors, is celebrating its 80th year serving homeowners, builders, commercial general contractors, remodeling contractors and architects in the Mid-Atlantic area. Since James A. Cassidy started the business in 1931, offering just a few lines of commercial products, the organization has built a reputation for providing unrivaled service, a high level of integrity and commitment to first-rate customer experience, officials note.

The company got its start as a manufacturers' agent, offering a limited line of “hard materials” such as brick mortar and lime. Alan Cassidy, James’ son, joined the company in 1945 after serving in World War II and while completing his education at Catholic University. Alan became president in 1959 and sole owner in 1962. Shortly, the firm acquired the exclusive distributorship for Pella Windows & Doors.

The company flourished under Alan Cassidy's leadership, growing the Pella business and expanding its territory to include the entire state of Maryland, Northern Virginia, Delaware and part of West Virginia. The third generation of the Cassidy family began in 1974 when Kevin Cassidy joined the company. Kevin became President in 1987 and took ownership in 1997. In 2006, Stan Stokes became the first non-family member to take over as president of the K.C. Co.

Kevin Cassidy is now the chairman of the board and the company’s next generation of the Cassidy family. Jonathan and Caroline Fornshell, have recently joined the organization.

In addition to celebrating its 80th year in business, K.C. Co. was also honored recently with the 2010 Pella President’s Award for Top Branch. Since 2004, K.C. has received three such awards, the dealer reports. In addition, 57 K.C. employees have earned the Pella President’s Club Award over the same time period.

For 2010, Pella has named K.C.'s Tim Allen, Richard Dowdy, Greg Hardin, Danny Kalmus, Peter McHugh, Matt Riordan, Paul Spence and Mike Weisberg as President’s Club Award winners.  The manufacturer also presented K.C.'s Brad Yourkavitch with its Retail Director’s Achievement Award.

“We’re honored to recognize Pella salespeople who achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction and service excellence,” says Annette Bravard, Pella Corp.'s vice president, retail replacement. “The outstanding efforts of these high-performing individuals reflect Pella’s commitment to delivering a marquee experience that drives overall customer satisfaction.”
