California State Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) recognized Liberty Valley Doors of Cotati as the "6th Assembly District Small Business of the Year" at a ceremony Monday at the Sacramento Convention Center.

"Liberty Valley Doors is a model for successful environmental business practices and community involvement," said Huffman. "I am proud to honor this green business on California Small Business Day."

Founded in the late 1970s, Liberty Valley Doors is a custom wood stile-and-rail door manufacturer committed to sustainable building and manufacturing practices, officials note.  Having installed a 117 kilowatt, photovoltaic solar array in 2008, the company is now manufacturing all of its doors using solar power.

Based in Cotati, Calif., Liberty Valley also recently started a line of doors made from reclaimed lumber and have built more than 800 of them to date without cutting down a single tree, it is noted. Leftover wood is also donated to area high schools for use in woodshop programs.
