The Department of Energy's Building Technologies Office will fund the creation of a program to rate and certify the performance of fenestration attachments. The BTO is encouraging funding applicants to begin developing partnerships, formulating ideas, and gathering data in anticipation of funding becoming available. The funding opportunity is open to applicants in the following areas:

  • Product certification programs
  • Window and window attachment technology
  • Test and simulation procedure development
  • Window attachments industry
  • Energy efficiency and policy programs.

The objective is to develop a third-party program that creates a consistent set of energy performance-based rating and certification standards and program procedures; oversees the implementation of rating, certification, labeling, and performance verification procedures; and develops and maintains a publicly available, searchable electronic database of fenestration attachment product performance. A third-party rating, certification, and labeling program would enable consumers to distinguish among energy-efficient attachment products and models.

Interested parties can view the full NOI at Grants.gov or EERE’s Funding Opportunity Exchange website. The final funding amount is subject to congressional appropriations, according to BTO.
