Guardian Industries reached an important milestone at its float glass plant in Krasny Sulin, Russia, where officials participated in the initial “ribbon pull”, December 11, to mark the beginning of production. Masonite International Corp. is closing a door fabrication plant in Kirkwood, N.Y., according to papers filed with the state's labor department. The move, scheduled for February 2013, will affect 64 workers.
The closing follows a November announcement from Masonite that it was losing about $70 million in retail business with Lowe's, primarily in the Northeast and Southwest.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with G-U Hardware, announced a voluntary recall of the hardware supplier's tilt-turn stay arms and side-hung sash hinges. In a November 28 release, CPSC officials advised consumers to stop using the recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
