The Department of Energy is hosting two windows technologies "roadmapping workshops" in June. The sessions are designed to provide updates on DOE building envelope research projects and discuss future goals and priorities for its Building Envelope R&D Program.

Two window companies have been fined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for violations of the Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule and other lead rules. The agency has also fined a rental property owner in a previously-reported case in Maine.
On March 20, Valiant Home Remodelers, a New Jersey window and siding company, agreed to pay $1,500 to resolve violations of the RRP rule... more »

A new bipartisan energy efficiency bill introduced by Reps. David McKinley (R-W.V.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.) in the House of Representatives is designed is designed to help create jobs, save homeowners money and benefit the environment. Lead-certified contractors can now use 3M LeadCheck swabs to check for the presence of lead on drywall and plaster, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Previously, it was only accepted for use on wood and ferrous metal surfaces under the lead Renovation, Repair and Painting rule.

Following a two-hour stakeholder strategy session in February, the Department of Energy is making a number of changes in its High Performance Windows Volume Purchase Program. Changes were announced recently in the DOE Building Envelope and Windows R&D Program Blog.
Among the changes is a new requirement for participating vendors to report total R-5 sales from all sources. ... more »

The European Commission has fined nine European producers of window hardware a total of €86 million (about $114 million) for operating a cartel by which they agreed on common price increases in breach of EU antitrust rules. The collusion lasted from November 1999 to July 2007 and affected European buyers of windows throughout Europe, according to the commission.
