Following up on the closing of its manufacturing operations earlier in the week, Jancor Cos. Inc. filed a voluntary chapter 11 petition on Oct. 30 in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, according to the Web site Chapter11.com.

After closing about 60 stores earlier this year, 84 Lumber Co. will close another 20 stores this year, the company confirmed on Thursday.

Jancor Cos. Inc. has ceased operations at its manufacturing operations, including Kensington Windows in Vandergrift, Pa., and Survivor Technologies in Hillside, N.J., according to a variety of newspaper reports. Jancor, which did not return calls for comment, has also shut down its Heartland Building Products siding plant in Mississipi and other facilities as well.

The National Association of Home Builders is forecasting 936,000 total housing starts for 2008, a 30.2 percent decline from the 1.34 million homes produced last year. Starts in 2009 are projected to slide 16.2 percent further, to 784,000 units, before picking up again in 2010 to the 1.0 million level.
