Frame & Sash Materials at GlassBuild America

Providing new design opportunities for vinyl and fiberglass windows and doors, the Fast exterior film line has been expanded with several new colors and woodgrain designs. Clay and Ivory join other earth tones to fit color trends, while Shadow Black and two new silver colors offer a refined look for both residential and commercial applications. Irish Oak is a very realistic new woodgrain added to the line as well. These new selections enable vinyl and fiberglass window makers to offer a rainbow of colors or true woodgrain finishes that have a variety of rich surface embossing textures. Suitable for both the interior and exterior of window profiles the unique acrylic make up of the films allows them to stand up to the elements exceptionally well in all North American climates, according to the supplier. Available from stock, the films are produced with a primer on the back surface that eases application even on conventional laminating equipment.

A proprietary, scientifically engineered PVC composite, compounded and extruded as an alternative to metal reinforcements is being featured by Chelsea Building Products.  Offering the same advantages as metal reinforcements, but without the constraints that steel and aluminum, the reinforcement is manufactured from a highly mineral filled formulation to provide superior thermal properties. The extruded profile virtually fills the cavity, significantly reducing occurrence of convection within the cavity air space. The reinforcement delivers a structural rating of R35 on a 40 x 63 inch double hung.

L. B. Plastics

The supplier of vinyl window and door extrusions will be featuring a complete line of impact rated window systems. The product line includes double-hung, double and triple sliders, casements, awnings, and fixed lites. Previously, customers would have had to look at metal windows to reach the high performance levels offered by the products, according to the company.  Examples of current test results include a design pressure of +65/-80 and a water pressure of 15 psf for a 53 1/8-inch x 78 inch double hung and a design pressure of +80/-120 and a water pressure of 15 psf for a 36 x 76 inch single-vent casement.

L.B. Plastics will also show for the first time its newest offering–the Sheerframe tilt/turn impact system. The company continues to develop additional products that meet Miami-Dade, ASTM, and AAMA protocols for impact ratings, including a sliding patio door system and hinged door system featuring French, garden and entry door styles. Personnel will be available during the show to talk about  specific profile requirement for both impact and high-performance windows, highlighting the company's abilities to enhance manufacturer efforts related to impact, energy efficiency and sound abatement.

SuperCapSR color technology is now offered on the supplier's MikronWood composite window systems. Low-heat absorbing SuperCapSR is is a molecularly-fused color layer that is an integral part of the profile, creating a more durable color surface. Unlike painted vinyl, the tough co-extruded acrylic color layer is highly scratch-resistant and more durable to protect windows during delivery and installation. Offering window makers an additional way to differentiate their products from competitors, the color options include architectural bronze, hunter green, adobe and brick red. The pre-finished exterior color saves time and cost for builders and provides no-maintenance benefits for homeowners. The proprietary color pigmentation system is proven by more than three years of outdoor weathering testing to be fade-resistant and low-heat absorbing, even with dark bronze and green colors, exceeding AAMA 613 standards for color fade and as well as AAMA standards for dimensional stability in high-heat climates, the supplier reports.

MikronWood profiles are made with a proprietary, solid core tri-polymer composite material blend of thermoplastic alloy resins. Meeting or exceeding AAMA tests for strength, stiffness, durability, and weathering, the material is completely moisture and rot-proof with excellent insulating properties (lower thermal-transfer values than fiberglass, hollow vinyl and pine wood), according to the supplier. Unlike wood, the material is impervious to moisture and insects, so it won’t rot or decay. Unlike fiberglass, MikronWood is easy to fabricate, weldable, requires no problematic corner joinery, and is fully recyclable. The complete window and door system includes tilt double hung, casement/awning, slider, picture windows, sliding and in-swing patio Doors, with a full line of trim accessories. Products are available in 3¼-inch frames for replacement and 4 9/16-inch frames for new construction applications.

Constructed of sturdy polyamide 6.6 with 25 percent glass fiber content, Bautec structural insulating struts from Technoform enables aluminum fenestration and curtain wall manufacturers to provide the highest degree of thermal performance and structural integrity available today, according to the supplier. The struts feature an expansion/contraction rate equal to that of aluminum, thermal conductivity rates 700 times lower than aluminum, and structural properties that exceed those of virtually every other thermoplastic available. The Bautec thermal insulating strut is used  worldwide to achieve low U-values in aluminum fenestration and is installed in millions of windows annually.
