Support National Window Safety Week

April 16, 2008

Next week, April 20-26, is National Window Safety Week—a great time for all window and door companies to reach out to the public with a message that can save lives. Many manufacturers have joined the campaign to educate people about the dangers of children playing around open windows with screens, as well as the important role windows play as a means of egress in a fire.

What are some of the things manufacturers and dealers can do? Warning labels are a good first step, but we should also take the opportunity to point out those labels when we interact with homeowners and other purchasers. Another way to reach out is through company Web sites. Atrium Windows & Doors offers window safety checklists from the National Safety Council and the United States Fire Administration on its corporate Web site. As a fun way to educate consumers and their children, it also offers downloads of the Window Safety Activity Book, a coloring and game book from the National Safety Council that teaches children about window safety.
