The Window & Door Dealers Alliance, has been hard at work planning this year’s Window & Door Dealer Day, now just around the corner, taking place Sept. 13 in Las Vegas. This unique event provides an opportunity for owners and top management of retail window and door businesses to come together to learn about current market conditions and best practices specific to the residential window and door market.

This year’s program offers enhanced programming tailored to meet the needs of the dealer community and provide solutions to the industry’s toughest challenges. The full day of programming includes the following sessions.

Morning Keynote: Build Depth and Create a Succession Plan in Eight Steps

In this informative, nuts-and-bolts presentation, Liz Weber, CMC, CSP, Weber Business Services, presents straightforward ideas on why and how to build depth and develop an ongoing succession planning process. The presentation shares logical insights with an eight-step process for linking succession plans with the company’s strategic plan to ensure alignment, proper workforce planning, and growth for an organization and its staff. Attendees will leave with the ability to share the simple process provided with their own boards or management teams to immediately reassess or start their own organizational succession plans.

Dealer to Dealer Discussion: Workforce Development

The construction industry is booming at a time when labor is scarce. Experienced workers are retiring faster than new hires can fill jobs, and skills are going with them. Young people aren’t interested in the trades, nor do they possess the necessary skills. Participate in an engaging discussion on how changing training, approach and perception can lead to solutions. Scott Brown, Franklin Window & Door, will facilitate this talk among participants and share with the group some of the grassroots measures he has been taking to tackle the problem.

Peer Forum: Regulations, Legislation and Other Challenges to Business

Discover best practices and preventative strategies; explore hot topics and time-sensitive issues such as tax laws, tariffs and liabilities. Attendees will also review the spectrum of legal issues impacting the window and door industry, including supplier contracts, distribution issues, product warranties and claims. This participant-based discussion will be facilitated by The Gary Law Group, a regular contributor to Window & Door magazine.

Peer Forum: Building Your Business—Old School Versus New School

In this peer discussion moderated by Madeleine MacRae, MacRae Coaching and Consulting, attendees will take an in-depth look at the old-school marketing methods that have worked for dealers for decades. The discussion will center on what still works and why, and how dealers can add some modern twists, updates and support to create a marketing plan that supports desired sales outcomes.

General Session: What’s the Truth About Trial and Error?

Explore three fundamental aspects of your business and how to strike a balance between the urge to wing it and the need to follow a formula. Attendees will discover how to solve staffing problems, build out advertising campaigns that produce results and establish business goals that create success. MacRae will deliver this talk in addition to moderating the peer-to-peer discussion previously mentioned.
