AMD Heading to Louisville

Trade show will once again focus on door and millwork products

Doors and millwork will once again take center stage when the Association of Millwork Distributors hosts its 48th annual convention and exhibition, set this year for October 8-12 in Louisville, Ky. Following the successful formula established last year, the event will feature one-day format focused on education, followed by two days of the trade show.

Fiberglass doors continued to see an expanded presence at last year's AMD trade show.

This year, the organization is emphasizing that the event is open to all industry professionals. "The association has a reputation of creating a quality event focused on education and networking opportunities for the millwork professional,” says Rosalie Leone, AMD CEO, who notes that it is "more important than ever that AMD continues to provide an environment for distributors, manufacturers, reps, and all industry professionals affiliated with the millwork industry to come together."

Last year, AMD held its annual convention and expo in nearby Nashville, where fiberglass doors once again seemed to gain more momentum. New lines were highlighted by GlassCraft, Masonite, Plastpro, Therma-Tru and Tru Tech Doors, as well as BGW Fiberglass Works, a Chinese manufacturer.

Wood door and millwork products remained prominent, with such exhibitors as Buffelen Woodworking, Combination Door, Karona, LeMieux Doors and Woodgrain Millwork, but the show also saw an influx of new exhibitors, including several suppliers of hardware and security products. Many of these firms will be returning, along with Jeld-Wen and Truth Hardware, as past exhibitors that are coming back for the first time in several years.

Long-time exhibitors returning include doorlite suppliers such as ODL and RSL, suppliers of entry system components, including Endura and Quanex, and pre-hanging equiment manufacturers, Full House and Kval. New exhibitors scheduled for Louisville include AquaSurtech OEM, the supplier of coatings and finishes for fiberglass and vinyl products.

The trade show, to be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center, is open from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, and Thursday, October 11.  The official hotel for the event is the Louisville Marriott Downtown, which is connected to the convention center.

Convention program
AMD business sessions kick off the convention on Monday, October 8, with the education program beginning on Tuesday, October 9. The full day of sessions begins with a session designed to provide a roadmap for online marketing, led by Bob DeStefano, who heads up an online marketing agency. He will be followed by Diane Thielfoldt, who will examine the changing workforce and look at bridging the gaps between different generations of workers. Jessica Ferris, AMD's director of codes and standards, will provide an update on the association's side-hinged door standard, as well as developments at the International Code Council, Energy Star and other groups.

David Lupberger, a long-time remodeler and columnist for Professional Remodeler magazine, will offer an afternoon session designed to help millwork professionals better understand the remodeling process and work more effectively with both contractors and their customers. AMD is also planning a business roundtable discussion entitled "What's Keeping You Up at Night?" The session is designed to allow participants to share their concerns and get ideas from peers.

Also on the agenda is a welcome reception and keynote address, which will take place prior to the show opening on Wednesday morning. The speaker is Tom Flick, a one-time NFL quarterback, who will speak about building leadership within a company. More information on the Louisvile event is available at
