Building on a successful 2013 event, the International Builders’ Show returns to Las Vegas this year, but this time with a new twist. The 2014 event will co-locate with the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show as part of the first annual Design & Construction Week. Sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders and the Kitchen & Bath Association, Design & Construction Week will take place February 4-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where each show will occupy a separate hall. IBS attendees will have access to the KBIS event, as well as the International Window Coverings Expo also taking place that week. “Two shows, two associations and one place to see and connect with every aspect of residential construction and remodeling,” said John Morgan, NKBA 2013 president, when announcing the co-location. “We couldn’t be more excited to deliver this special event for the industry.” Between IBS and KBIS, the anticipated number of exhibiting companies is expected to top 1,500, according to show organizers. Among them will be several window, door, accessory and component suppliers, whose products are previewed below. Click here for complete information on IBS 2014.

Velux will introduce Clean, Quiet & Safe Glass during IBS 2014. Velux designed the laminated glass to keep its skylights cleaner, reduce outside noise and take the guesswork out of interpreting local building codes for glass required in out-of-reach applications, it reports. The glass features a thin coating of titanium dioxide and silicone dioxide on the exterior surface that make it capable of eliminating organic matter deposited on skylights over time, according to Velux. The laminated glass reduces outside noise by up to 25 percent compared to standard double pane glass and up to 50 percent more compared to plastic skylights, the exhibitor reports. Phantom Screens

Phantom Screens’ motorized Executive Series screens fit single openings as large as 25 feet wide and 16 feet tall. A solution for screening patios, lanais, porches and other large openings, the Executive screens retract out of sight when not in use, even above an archway or large opening, the exhibitor reports.  Rustic two-panel Knotty Alder fiberglass door

The MasterGrain Prestige Collection of fiberglass door systems combines a matching door, plug-less frame, SDL bars, jambs and brickmould to create a consistent look between all of the door components. Slabs are manufactured using MasterGrain’s patented Weber Grain Technology, a process said to authentically replicate any natural surface. Wood pieces are hand selected to build a real wood door, which is then cast in silicone. The silicone picks up the finest details of the woodgrain and transfers them into a door mold using the company’s nickel vapor deposition technology. The mold produces fiberglass skins with random grain depths and all the natural characteristics of real wood, according to the company. The new collection includes Colonial, Prairie and Craftsman designs.

Intus Windows

Intus Windows will promote its newest energy efficient window, the Premier 78 Alu Mira Advanced triple-pane wood window, featuring a high-density composite foam material integrated into a pine wood window frame, and an aluminum clad exterior frame. An extrusion allows both the wood and aluminum to thermally expand and contract independently of each other. The triple-pane glass has a U-value of 0.088, and when combined with the insulated wood frame, produces a window assembly with a U-value of 0.14, or an R-value of R-7. The triple-pane windows are filled with argon gas for improved thermal performance and can accommodate 56-millimeter-thick glazing. Additional features include triple gasket weatherstripping for air tightness and warm-edge spacers that increase the glass surface temperature and reduce condensation on the glass.

ODL Inc. will showcase the Evolve doorglass framing system, engineered to correct problematic scalloping and corner flaring. While a standard screw frame averages 0.05 inch to 0.10 inch of scalloping, Evolve achieves less than 0.005 inch of scalloping due to improved screw-boss locations and glazing materials, according to the exhibitor. The frame also minimizes corner flare with screw placement and quantity, while new auto-aligning screw-hole plugs contribute to overall aesthetics. Along with the improved design of the frame, Evolve’s precision-applied foam tape, which is used on both the frame-to-door and frame-to-glass sides, achieves enhanced sealant performance and guarantees no squeeze-out of wet seals, according to ODL. Customers can specify the frame in one of four available sizes and with many of ODL’s doorglass offerings, including insulating glass blinds, clear and low-E glass, and decorative doorglass.
