The Heart of the Business

THE TALK... | Operations

I have already learned a great deal in my time with Window & Door magazine; along with the technical details of the fenestration business, I am getting to know the men and women who make up this industry. Make no mistake, while the stock in trade is entry and interior doors, windows, components and supplies, the heart of this business is the people.

I have encountered a variety of companies whose employees demonstrate ingenuity, technical skill and business acumen along with a measure of good humor and integrity. These people and their organizations create high-quality, reliable products for the residential window and door industry.

Our annual Crystal Achievement Awards the deadline for which is next week, seek to recognize these efforts. This juried program honors manufacturers and suppliers for their outstanding contributions to advancing the products and processes that comprise fenestration. The awards are quickly becoming one of my favorite projects because we get to acknowledge the hard work and imagination that go in to what these people create.

The Crystal Achievement Awards acknowledge both manufacturers and suppliers, in a range of categories that include, for manufacturers, Most Innovative Window, Patio, Multi-Slide or Multi-Panel Door, Entry Door or Manufacturing Process, along with a Best Dealer Support/Marketing Program category. Suppliers are recognized for Most Innovative Window Component, Door Component,
Machine/Equipment and a Unique Innovation category.

A panel of judges evaluates entries, with winners and notable mentions announced in the September issue of Window & Door. These categories encompass the work of thousands of people, and it’s my pleasure to help administer a program that offers industry recognition for a job well done.

The deadline for all nominations is Friday, June 16, 2017. For more information about the Crystal Achievement Awards, the nomination form and for tips on submitting a nomination, visit windowanddoor.com/crystalinfo.
