In this issue, I am excited to introduce the first annual Top Specialists rankings, recognizing leading independent window and door dealers and distributors in the U.S. market. The brain child of former editor John Swanson, the Top Specialists ranks dealers and distributors specializing in windows, doors, skylights, sunrooms and related products for the new construction, remodeling and replacement markets, based on sales volume.

While I have the privilege of writing about and learning from many of the largest companies in the window and door industry, I also take great pleasure in learning of the efforts of smaller, specialized firms. And although some of the window and door companies on the following list are by no means small—Power Home Remodeling comes in at No. 1 with annual sales of more than $100 million—they are uniquely focused on the sale and installation of windows and doors, giving them the personal feel I often associate with smaller, independent companies.

I would like to extend my thanks to all of the window and door companies that participated in the first annual Top Specialists rankings and encourage those of you that belong on this list—and I know there are thousands of you!—to consider joining the ranks next year. The 2014 Top Specialists list is Window & Door’s first effort to identify the largest independently owned, specialty window and door companies in the United States, and as such, is far from comprehensive. It can only grow with the participation of companies like yours.

In addition to appearing in Window & Door and on WindowandDoor.com, all companies that qualify for the Top Specialists rankings receive special logo artwork and a press release that they can use to promote their achievement in making this prestigious national list. Each company also receives a commemorative PDF that can be printed and framed, featuring the magazine cover and the company’s name and rank on the list. Most importantly, each Top Specialist receives the recognition it deserves for playing the unique and important role of “specialist” in the window and door market.

  • Are You a Top Specialist?

    • Do residential and light commercial windows, doors, skylights, sunrooms, patio enclosures, and related products and services account for more than 50 percent of your company’s total annual sales?
    • Is your company independently owned and operated?
    • Do you sell, but not manufacture, window and door-related products?
If you answered “yes” to all of the above questions, then you might qualify for Window & Door’s Top Specialists rankings. For more information, email Jenni Chase, editorial director, at jchase@glass.org.
