Certified Wood Offered in Jeld-Wen Products

July 1, 2008
Jeld-Wen Inc. has added Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified wood as an option for its Custom Wood product line, a move the company says adds to its growing commitment to sustainable manufacturing.

The company has attained SFI chain of custody plant certification, meaning it has a tracking system in place to identify the certified, uncertified and recycled content in the forest products it buys, uses or sells. The company underwent a third-party audit to ensure compliance.

SFI certified products, available in Ponderosa pine, cost an additional 10 percent, the company reports. Jeld-Wen also uses its Auralast wood treatment, a proprietary, water-based, vacuum-pressure process free of volatile organic compounds.

"With SFI certification, AuraLast wood and energy efficient glass technology, we are able to offer arguably one of the most environmentally friendly wood window choices on the market today," says Brian Hedlund, Jeld-Wen product marketing manager. "Achieving certification is a major benefit for our customers because they are looking for sustainable options. It also fits well with our vision to be the clear global leader in the industry, which includes sustainability and environmental stewardship."
