Crystal Window Considering Expansion

November 11, 2008

Crystal Window & Door Systems, the manufacturer of vinyl and aluminum windows based in Flushing, N.Y., is looking at potential plant sites as it looks to expand into new markets. The company recently talked to the Louisiana Economic Development and Greater New Orleans Inc., a 10-parish regional economic development agency, according to an article in the Times-Picayune.

Crystal is looking to expand into other parts of the country, including the South and Northwest, says Bob Nyman, a company spokesman, but he emphasizes that the manufacturer's plans are "very preliminary" at this point, and that it is looking at other potential sites around the country in addition to Louisiana.

A new Crystal plant would be sizeable, as large as 500,000 square feet, Nyman reports, but the company would likely start small and ramp up the operation. Although the current market is challenging, Crystal is commited to expanding beyond its East Coast base, he continues, adding that it is probably at least six to 12 months from any decision.
