Jeld-Wen to End Manufacturing at Georgia Plant

August 12, 2008
Jeld-Wen Inc. will shut down manufacturing operations at its Gainesville, Ga., facility. The company said the change was necessary due to a downturn in the housing industry, according to an Associated Press report.

The facility will continue to be used as a sales and distribution office. Jeld-Wen expects to lay off about 40 employees as a result of the change. Company spokeswoman Teri Cline told the AP the company may re-open the facility for manufacturing in the future.

The Georgia plant was opened originally by Seasonshield, a Florida-based manufacturer acquired by Jeld-Wen in 2004.
