Making its debut at next week's International Builders' Show, Diversified Lineal Systems is a recently formed supplier of  fiberglass window and door systems targeting regional fabricators.  A unit of Diversified Structural Composites, a pultrusion supplier based in Erlanger, Ky., that is part of an multi-billion international corporation focusing on composite technologies for a variety of markets.

Mark Back and Geoffrey Card are managing the new venture. Between them they have over 60 years of window industry experience particularly in product design, market analysis, development of new materials and in systems marketing.  In developing the new fiberglass window and door line, the company's objective has been to create "modern well-designed, manufacturing-friendly and aesthetically-pleasing products," states Card.  One of the new products it will be featuring in Booth N1013 is a new door system believed to be the first fiberglass frame and sash system designed to match traditional joinery sizes and enable existing door slabs to be accommodated.

Over the past 20 years, the industry has progressed to meet demands for more maintenance free products, greater security, protection from the effects of severe weather and hurricanes, and energy efficiency, Card explains. "Vinyl has enjoyed a dominant market share because it answers many of these demands at the expense of traditional materials," he says.

"The case for fiberglass in window and door construction is compelling," he continues. "A fiberglass profile of given shape has at least seven times the sectional strength (rigidity) of an equivalent rigid vinyl profile. The minimal thermal expansion will open up the whole world of color, dark colors such as black and bronzes included, to door and window construction–even for our hottest Southern climates."
