Gerkin Adding Glass Plant

May 2, 2012

Gerkin Windows & Doors will be breaking ground on a plot of land located across from its current plant location to build a new glass fabrication facility. The new facility will enable the manufacturer to increase glass production and allow for line expansion in the existing plant, officials state.

New automated machinery will allow for increased production and the new facility will allow for increased storage capacity, it is also noted.

“This is an example of a quality business that continues to strive in what has been described as a down economy nationally. We are honored to have this company located in South Sioux City,” says Daniel McNamara, economic development director for the Nebraska city.

Celebrating its 80 years in business this year, Gerkin was founded in 1932.  It manufactures vinyl and aluminum window and door products for residential and commercial applications.

The new facility will be built near the 165,000-square-foot plant Gerkin opened in 2004.
