Home Depot Acquires Online Service Company

The Home Depot has acquired Redbeacon, an online services company that connects consumers with home maintenance, repair and remodeling contractors. The home improvement retailer tells the Atlanta Journal Constitution that it is too soon to say what its plans are for the California-based company.

Redbeacon is currently available in Atlanta, the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Houston, Boston, Denver and Portland markets. For now, the company will operate as a standalone business with its leadership team in tact in San Mateo, Calif.

According to its website, Redbeacon provides consumers "the best home service pro at the right price, while saving upwards of 40 percent."  The company uses a proprietary algorithm that takes into account location, availability, ratings, and even recommendations from the consumer's own Facebook social graph to identify and invite local professional contractors to submit their price quotes for a job, executives state.
