Jeld-Wen Unleashes Pet Doors

April 11, 2012

Pointing out that nearly two-thirds of all U.S. households own one or more pets, and spending on pets continues to rise even during tough economic times, Jeld-Wen is introducing several new products for dogs and cats.

Jeld-Wen's new vinyl sliding door with access panel for pets

“Homeowners want reliable options to accommodate their pets that are also convenient, and look and perform great,” says Derek Brosterhous, Jeld-Wen's director of product marketing for doors. “These doors are a wonderful solution.”

The new products include a sliding vinyl patio door with an integrated pet door providing an indoor-outdoor access point for pets. The door offers the  low maintenance and energy-saving features of Jeld-Wen's standard vinyl patio door with a secure-closing pet panel with the manufacturer's easy-to-operate Wen-Lock system, it states.  The door has a clear flap that stays closed thanks to a magnetic pull that prevents it from being blown open by strong winds, but is flexible enough to allow easy passage.

The pet door doesn’t mean homeowners have to sacrifice human accessibility, officials note. The unit operates as a standard patio door.

Jeld-Wen's pet solution for steel and fiberglass doors

Jeld-Wen also offers a special-order steel or fiberglass door with an installed pet door solution, available in a prehung unit. The pet door includes weatherproof technology that tightly seals and resists water leaks, the manufacturer states. The entry door can be supplied primed and ready to paint or as a pre-painted option.

Unlike retrofitted pet doors of yesteryear that typically were installed separately, these door systems provide an integrated solution for maximum style and reliability, the company points out. With a variety of entry door material options and operational styles, homeowners have a good selection of price ranges and choices that will suit their needs, and their pets’ needs, as well.

Tips for sizing pet doors are offered on the Jeld-Wen website.
