Pella to Integrate with Smart Home Systems from Lowe's

January 11, 2012

SmartSync technology, being launched this week by Pella Windows & Doors at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, will integrate with Iris, the cloud-based home management system introduced last week by Lowe’s, the manufacturer reports. The two companies are rolling out their smart home products later this year.

SmartSync technology can help increase a home’s energy efficiency, the company states. Programmable controls can open shades to allow sun to come in during the day in winter and then close to help keep heat in at night. In summer, shades or blinds can be closed to reduce heat build-up. Between-the-glass blinds or shades featuring this technology can manage the sun’s light and heat over two times more efficiently than windows without blinds or shades, according to Pella officials.

The Lowe’s system is said to be an affordable, cloud-based complete home management system that gives customers the ability to control and interact with their home from anywhere using their smart phone or computer. Iris will be available in Lowe’s stores and on during mid-2012.

Pella SmartSync is an integrated system that allows shades or blinds—like snap-in options in Pella Designer Series 750 windows and patio doors sold at Lowe’s—to be controlled simply by a remote control or by a home or building automation system through Web-enabled devices.

“Pella SmartSync technology is designed to integrate with the intuitive new Lowe’s Iris home management system," says Dan Wilcox, Pella senior manager. "Once these smart home products are each later available in 2012, combining SmartSync with the Iris system from Lowe’s will help you monitor and control operation of popular products like the blinds and shades in Pella windows and doors in your home.”

Yesterday, with the opening of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Pella announced the launch of the new SmartSync technology, which is being featured in the Schlage booth. In addition to the Lowe's system, the Pella technology also works with the Nexia Home Intelligence system, a re-launch of the Schlage LiNK system with expanded smart home capabilities.
