Quanex Building Products Corp. is consolidating and restructuring its insulating glass spacer business. With warm-edge spacer production currently at the one-time Edgetech I.G. facility in Cambridge, Ohio, and Truseal Technologies' plant Barbourville, Ky., the company plans to close the Kentucky facility and relocate equipment to the Ohio operation.

"Quanex Building Products remains committed to becoming the leader in the production of fenestration components, products and systems serving a global customer base," says David D. Petratis, Quanex's president and CEO. "We continually work to identify opportunities that enhance our ability to deliver outstanding products and services to our growing customer base. While it was a very difficult decision to close our spacer facility in Kentucky, we believe this consolidation will allow us to better serve our customers through streamlined operations. During the transition, our spacer customers can expect to see the same great service and experience they have grown accustomed to."

By integrating the product lines from both Truseal Technologies and Edgetech I.G., Quanex is now able to provide an energy-efficient, sustainable solution for any commercial or residential IG application, officials note. “Quanex’s insulating glass businesses have a reputation for being innovators in the warm edge spacer market,” adds Larry Johnson, vice president of sales for the IG systems business unit. “By bringing decades of experience, innovations and expertise together, Quanex is not only able to provide best-in-class products for manufacturers today, but we are poised to develop new products that will raise the bar for energy-efficiency in the fenestration industry.”

The restructuring plan also includes the consolidation of administrative functions, as well as research and development. With the change, George L. Wilson assume the new role of general manager for the company's IG systems business.

The consolidation of operations and the subsequent closure of the Barbourville facility are expected to be completed during Quanex's fiscal third quarter 2012.
