The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance conducted a series of workshops at GlassBuild America this week in Atlanta based on its IGMA IG Fabricator Workshop. The introduction to forensic investigation hands-on sessions provide participants with insulating glass unit samples intentionally fabricated with common, known failures.

Participants inspect the IGUs and, with guidance from industry experts, use tools to determine the failure mode.

Jim Bramble with Sika Corp. guided participants through the first part of the workshop, which involved cutting the seal between the panes and opening the unit to examine where it failed. Randi Ernst of FDR Design led the second part of the workshop, which included a frost test to see condensation between the panes and a spark test to measure the gas fill inside of the IGU.

Each participant received forensic investigative worksheet forms to take back to their employers.

Three workshops are available Wednesday, Sept. 18. Pre-registration is required and free.
