Alside Celebrates 65th Anniversary

July 31, 2012

Alside, the manufacturer and distributor of residential vinyl windows and siding products, is commemorating its 65th anniversary next week. Beginning next Monday, August 6, at its headquarters in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, key events include a United Way Day of Action and a celebration with corporate employees and retirees to mark the opening of the new AMI Legacy Center featuring a large Alside “timeline” wall graphic and a variety of company memorabilia.

“Alside is dedicated to advancing innovative exterior building products for the residential marketplace,” says Jerry Burris, president and chief executive officer for Associated Materials Inc., parent company of Alside. “This dedication is illustrated in the growth and success we’ve experienced throughout our 65 years. It is a proud legacy, and we are fortunate and honored to carry it forward.”

Jerome J. Kaufman, founder of Alside, introduced the world’s first residential baked enamel aluminum siding in 1947. Since then, Alside has expanded to produce and distribute vinyl windows, vinyl siding, vinyl fencing and other exterior building products through 100 company-owned Alside Supply Centers and a large network of independent distributors nationwide. Products are sold via these wholesale channels to professional remodeling companies, contractors and builders.

Milestones include the opening the first Alside Supply Center in 1952; becoming a public company in 1960; production of its first replacement window in 1980; production of its five millionth window in 1996; that same year; recognition as the Energy Star National Window Partner of the Year; and the opening of its 100th Alside Supply Center in 2012.

“Alside is a company that not only survived but prospered over the last 65 years because of their determination and resiliency,” says Donald L. Kaufman, founding family member. “I feel honored to have spent 46 years there as an executive and CEO.”
