June 1, 2011

Champion Windows is launching a summer campaign called “Close the Window on Hunger” to donate to food banks all around the country. The replacement window manufacturer and installer plans to donate 50 pounds of food for every appointment and another 100 pounds for every order placed, it reports.

Last summer, Champion's location in Colorado Springs, Colo., ran a similar program was able to donate over 150,000 pounds of food. Nationwide this summer, the company has established a goal of more than 2.5 million pounds of food.

With schools closed and many children lacking access to school lunches, food pantries and shelters report “many more children in the summer” being served by their programs, Champion notes. The Cincinnati-based company has established a website for the program, which will provide updates on how much the company has donated, as well as information about how the public can help food banks in their areas.
