Pella Earns FSC Certification

October 19, 2009

Pella Corp. has been awarded Forest Stewardship Council chain-of-custody certification by Scientific Certification Systems, the manufacturer reports.

“Pella’s roots in environmental stewardship trace back to 1925, when the company was founded and launched its first recycling program,” says Jim Nieboer, who heads up Pella’s environmental efforts. “Now with the widely-recognized FSC CoC certification, we can offer Pella customers the option of windows and doors made from pine certified to have been harvested from well-managed forests.”

FSC awards its chain of custody certification to companies that meets its standards for tracking wood used in their products from the certified forest to the consumer. Steps of the production process—including harvesting, processing, manufacturing and distribution—must be independently verified for adherence to FSC standards.

FSC certification enables Pella’s windows and doors to earn additional points in the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED green building rating systems.
