October 18, 2010

The Asian Pacific American Legal Center recently presented its 2010 Public Service Award to Walter and Shirley Wang in honor of their efforts to support and promote the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in China, Africa and the U.S.

Shirley Wang is CEO of Plastpro Inc., the fiberglass door manufacturer.  Walter Wang, her husband, is CEO of JM Eagle, the producer of plastic pipe.  The two were recognized for significant, multi-year contributions to APALC, which have helped that organization build its indigent legal services capacity, which provides legal representation for domestic violence, child custody and immigration matters to those who otherwise could not afford it. The Wangs have also established the nation's first endowed chair on U.S.-China relations and Chinese American studies at UCLA and also created an endowed chair in pediatric surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in  Los Angeles.

"Shirley and I are tremendously honored to receive this prestigious award from such a well-respected organization as APALC," says Walter Wang. "We are deeply committed to APALC's ideals and pledge to remain active in this important organization and to pursue its worthy goals."
