MikronWood Replacement 1700 Series Frames combine the beauty of wood with the weatherable, no-maintenance advantages of a composite. The material can’t absorb moisture so it is a very durable, rot and insect-proof material, the supplier reports. Unlike fiberglass, it is does not require pre-drilling or mechanical joinery. It mills and fabricates like wood and is bendable and weldable. Mikron Industries now offers window manufacturers a complete line of composite window styles for the replacement market. The line includes a tilt double hung window featuring a 3¼-inch frame depth ideal for replacing old wood windows without requiring the removal of exterior stops, hollow pockets on the sash for optional reinforcement, equal glass site lines, integral pivot shoe pockets for a clean jamb look, and snap fit grooves for accessories; eliminating the need for the nailing or screwing as a method of attachment. The series also includes a companion picture window frame and a casement/awning system designed to allow for hidden multipoint locking hardware. The composite components are available with Mikron’s SuperCapSR exterior color technology that creates a molecularly-fused color layer that becomes an integral part of the profile. Real wood interior surface veneer options include ponderosa pine, cherry, maple and red oak.
