General Information: Previously owned by J.T. Walker Industries, MI Windows & Doors announced recently that the company was being acquired by a management group, together with ShoreView Industries, a Minneapolis-based private equity firm. In 2012, MI Windows & Doors closed its plant in Smyrna, Tenn. as part of a long-term strategy to consolidate operations into three manufacturing centers in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Texas.

The company reports significant recent investments in product development to meet the proposed Energy Star V6 criteria. It launched the award-winning MI EnergyCore line in the Western region, and recently expanded this offering to include a more economical variation marketed as the HomeMaker3 Series. It also started producing vinyl replacement windows in its Texas facility, and was named as the top manufacturer of R-5 windows for 2011, according to the Department of Energy’s High Performance Windows Volume Purchase Program.

The vertically integrated manufacturer of vinyl and aluminum products continues to serve the new construction, replacement and light commercial markets nationwide. The company is also the licensed producer of CertainTeed branded windows for the United States. With a 60-year history in the building product category, MIWD got its start as Metal Industries, manufacturing screens in an old airplane hangar in Clearwater, Fla. It first began manufacturing storm windows in 1972 and storm doors in 1974, before introducing vinyl replacement windows in 1981.
