General Information: Serious Energy cut back on its window operations significantly in 2012. Originally known as Serious Materials, the company rose to national prominence in 2009, acquiring two recently-closed window operations--Kensington Windows in Vandergrift, Pa., and Republic Windows & Doors in Chicago. Serious still manufactures high-performance windows and glass products at the Pennsylvania plant, but it closed the Chicago operation in 2012.

Serious also sold its Colorado-based architectural window and glass operation. Acquired in 2008 as Alpen Inc., Serious sold the company to a group that included former owners of the firm last year. Now known as Alpen High Performance Products, the company will continue to offer fiberglass windows and architectural glass products for the residential and commercial markets. At the beginning of last year, Omniglass Ltd., the Manitoba-based fiberglass pultruder Serious acquired in 2010, suffered a fire and the facility was shut down. New owners acquired the assets of Omniglass at the beginning of this year with plans to restart the business. Serious Energy continues to operate its EcoRock sheetrock manufacturing business, as well as its unit offering an energy efficiency software-as-a-service platform to monitor, analyze, and control energy usage in commercial buildings.
