Alicia Huey, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders, attended the February 7 State of the Union address and issued a statement regarding U.S. President Joe Biden’s remarks.
“Although President Biden missed a golden opportunity in his State of the Union address by failing to lay out his vision to combat the nation’s housing affordability crisis,” says Huey, “he did reference this critical issue by stating, ’Let’s also finish the job and get more Americans access to affordable housing.’”
“The nation’s home builders could not agree more. The lack of attainable, affordable housing in both the single-family and multifamily markets affects tens of millions of households nationwide and easing the affordability crisis should be a top priority for the White House and Congress. NAHB will continue to work with policymakers at all levels of government and in partnership with the private sector to address America’s current housing supply crisis by seeking solutions to boost production of affordable housing and achieve a measure of price stability in the for-sale and rental markets.”
