ProVia announced that the company’s Cherry Ridge facility, located in Sugarcreek, Ohio, has been certified as a Voluntary Protection Program Star site by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The Voluntary Protection Program recognizes employers and workers in private industry and federal agencies who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries.
What this means
According to OSHA, the VPP designation is the organization’s premier recognition program, and is given to “an elite group of organizations that provide exemplary occupational safety and health protection and serve as a model for others.” ProVia now has four sites that are VPP certified, including Walnut Creek (corporate headquarters and entry door production), Sugarcreek (storm door and patio door production), Baltic (insulated glass production) and Cherry Ridge (manufactured stone production), all in Ohio.
Participation in the VPP involves a significant investment in time, equipment and materials by each partner company. According to Mike Yoder, director of environmental and safety for ProVia, this investment reflects commitment to the company’s core value of providing for employees. “Our goal is always to protect the well-being of our employees by providing a safe work environment where each individual can thrive,” says Yoder.
